Our favorites to try in October 2018

Niagara Launcher

Niagara Launcher is an attractive new launcher that gives your homescreen a neat minimalist look. There’s a clock widget on top, followed by a list of your 8 hand-picked favorite apps. This presentation goes a long way towards clearing up that clutter! For the rest of your apps, there’s an alphabetical listing you can tap to open a list of all your apps, or long press and scroll up and down for a quick preview of apps which you can then tap to launch quickly. Although not officially released, we didn’t find any bugs in the early version available on the Play Store.

StoryZ photo motion

This neat app adds animation to a normally still image. The developer explains that this is about “creating and sharing photos in motion art”, a process that is simply done using direction vectors. Photo editors and social media mavens will love adding some flair to their image posts with this artistic tool.

Bouncer – Temporary App Permissions

2018 could well be the year the masses wake up to online privacy, mainly thanks to Facebook’s indiscretions. It’s not just about web browsing though. On your mobile devices, you might notice that apps often ask for a scary range of permissions, and once granted, technically the app can access them whenever it wants. Bouncer is a security app that allows you to control this: you can grant temporary permissions to applications. For example, if you want to allow an application to access your location only while you post something, this application is perfectly suited because as soon as the application is closed Bouncer will remove its permission.
